Omawumi Megbele (born 13 April 1982), popularly known by her stage name Omawumi, is a Nigerian singer-songwriter and actress who has a net worth estimated at $3 million.

EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATION

Omawumi was born on the 13^th of April 1982  She is of Itsekiri ethnicity and the daughter of Mrs. Aya Megbele (mother) and Chief Dr. Frank (father), who named her Omawumi Megbele after her birth. The singer has siblings – brothers and sisters, as she is the 12th of 15 children born to her parents. Unfortunately, details about them are currently unavailable.

Omawumi began her educational journey with Nana Primary School and the College of Education Demonstration Secondary School in Warri, Delta State. After completing her secondary education, Omawumi proceeded to Ambrose Alli University in Edo State, where she obtained a degree in Law after she graduated from the renowned tertiary institution in 2005.

CAREER

Omawumi became popular as a contestant in Idols West Africa, where she emerged as the first runner-up of the competition in May 2007. After the competition, she started enjoying the privilege of performing with star musicians like P-Square, 2face Idibia, D’Banj, Banky W, M.I, Sasha, 9ice, Chaka Demus and Pliers, Carl Thomas, Angie Stone and Donell Jones, Angelique Kidjo amongst others. Omawumi owns her own record label.

Omawumi is a multi-talented artist because she’s not only good at singing but also a pro actress. She started acting in 2009 when she played a minor role at V-monologues – a play that reflects the negative issues affecting Nigerian women. Afterward, she starred in the musical play Olorombi, and the movie Inhale, a Hollywood and Nollywood.

In 2011, Funke Akindele gave her a lead role in the Return of Jenifa, and in 2013 she starred in Yvonne Nelson’s House of Gold alongside Majid Michael and Ice Prince. Omawumi was one of the lead actors in the movie ‘She Is’ which premiered in March 2019. ‘She Is‘ was produced by Omawumi’s media company; Hermanes Media. Omawumi’s marriage was one of the celebrity marriages that made waves in early 2018. Though it came with lesser attention than that of Banky W and Etomi, which took place in late 2017, the singer was showered with lots of love and support from notable Nigerian elites and music stars.

The female Popstar is married to Tosin Ibrahim Yusuf, the founder of Lloyd Gate Limited, a real estate company, and an ex-co-owner of Zamunda nightclub and bar in Ikoyi, Lagos State. The marriage ceremony took place on January 13, 2018, in Warri, even though it is said that the pair had their registry wedding in January 2015.

Before their celebrated marriage ceremony, Omawumi was Tosin’s baby mama for four years. She got pregnant with her baby daddy turned husband three months after they met at a club. She was actually 29 years old when she gave birth to her first child Kamila. Shortly after their marriage, the pair welcomed a son. So far, Omawumi and her husband have two children- a daughter Kamila Emmanuela Yusuf (born June 17, 2011), and a son, born July 18, 2015.
